Welcome Back! Fall Semester Gets Underway

While last Friday was the official start of the Fall semester, last Monday marked the first day of classes for many students.

President Jerome and other senior administrators were out in full force on all campuses saying hello, helping new students find their way around, resolving last-minute issues, and welcoming continuing students back to campus.

The last week was especially busy on the New Rochelle campus as the residential halls opened up for move-ins. They hadn’t been entirely empty, of course, as some of our student-athletes who play fall season sports have been on campus for several weeks to participate in pre-season training and conditioning.

We also had many first-year students here for the August Bridge semester. That is a special accelerated program for new students, most of whom graduated high school last June, to take their first two college courses, earning six credits as they acclimate to the rigors of college study and adjust to the independence and responsibility that comes with living on campus.

For the first time since the pandemic, we are back to full capacity in the residence halls. It certainly is wonderful to see the buildings busy with people and activity again with such a diverse group of people from all across New York and around the world.

We have an exceptional group of RAs with us this academic year. They are students selected to help our Res Life team keep the residential halls running smoothly by helping students on their hall settle in, maintaining order, and addressing any issues that may arise. They received many hours of training to help them by successful in their roles.

They did an AWESOME job on this busy first week and deserve a special shout-out for stepping up and doing what needed to get done.

Accordingly, a very big Monroe College thank you goes out to: Kerena Bethel, Deondre Bradshaw, Frank Costantino, Tatiyana East, Sarine Hannaway, Rugeana Hyman, Oneilia Lewis, Kayon Miles, Ga'Nyia Miller, Effat Walia Nizia, Akeilia Phillips, Dakarai Phipps, Anna Pinder, Maminiaina Ravaloarison, Shaniqua Rimon, Lakia Sands, Jahmai Scott, Caryse Spencer, Kelsey Tavarez, and Laqueta Thomas.
