Monroe University and President Marc Jerome Named "Best of the Bronx" for 2024

The votes are in and the people of the Bronx have spoken!

We are so proud to share that Monroe University was named “Best College or University in the Bronx” and our president, Marc Jerome, was named “Best College or University President” for 2024 in Schneps Media’s Best of the Bronx Competition. Monroe earned the top spots over nearly a dozen other institutions of higher education located in the Bronx borough.

Held annually, the Best of the Bronx Competition offers community members the chance to nominate and vote for their favorite businesses, events, influencers, institutions of higher education and beyond. This double recognition underscores Monroe’s longstanding and strong connection to the Bronx borough and student success.

President Marc Jerome said the awards were “a tremendous honor,” noting the significant impact the institution has in serving and being responsive to the Bronx community.

The honorees were celebrated at a gala event held in late January at Villa Barone Manor, a beautiful venue befitting such a happy occasion. Monroe staff and administrators were proudly in attendance to congratulate others being recognized in their respective categories and to accept the crystals for the University's two winning categories.  It was a wonderful, festive party and a great time was had by all!

Monroe, a leader in educating first-generation and international students, has been a proud member of the Bronx for more than 90 years. The institution's roots can be traced back to a secretarial school that first opened in 1933 in the West Farms neighborhood. The Jerome family continues to lead Monroe today.

President Marc Jerome has been at the helm since 2017, stepping into the role after the retirement of his father, Stephen Jerome, who served as Monroe’s top administrator for 38 years.

President Jerome's vision for increasing affordability and access to college has led to the creation of numerous programs that have allowed thousands of students to earn a private college education without incurring student debt. No doubt that's one reason Monroe has been recognized for being a "best value" college in our region and for our impact on graduates' social mobility.

We thank all the students, staff, alumni, and neighbors who voted for us!  We will continue to work hard to make a difference for local students and their families.
