Our School of Education Hatches an EGG-citing Project

July 03, 2018

We had an “egg-cellent” start to the summer thanks to an unusual School of Education project. There’s a farm in Pennsylvania that offers elementary schools the opportunity to host chicken eggs for a week so that schoolchildren can experience the excitement of watching the eggs hatch while also teaching them about scientific observation and animal care. As students in our School of Education will likely be early childhood education teachers one day, we decided to give them the very same learning opportunity – but from the teacher’s perspective. This fun project was a big hit with students, faculty, and staff alike. Everyone in Jerome Hall was sorry when the farm folks returned to retrieve the 12 baby chicks. My thanks to Dean Anne Lillis, Professor Susanne Metscher, and the rest of the SOE faculty for arranging this “egg-citing” project.
