  • Associate in Applied Science
    LPN to RN Part-time Option

    The evening/weekend option is designed to provide an opportunity for working adults who are Licensed Practical Nurses to become Registered Nurses with an Associate degree. Graduates are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN licensing exam and may be eligible to pursue the Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The program is completed in six semesters across two academic years.

    Admissions Requirements

    The School of Nursing Admissions Committee holistically reviews each applicant’s admission materials and selects the most highly qualified candidates for a limited number of seats. Applicants must provide the following:

    • ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) scores at the Proficient Level or higher
    • A copy of the applicant’s active LPN license
    • High school transcripts with an overall grade point average of 80 or higher
    • Evidence of satisfactory grades (generally C+ or higher) in algebra, biology/living environment, and chemistry at the high school or college level
    • Evidence of the completion of the following college-level coursework:
      • English and General Psychology, generally with grades of C or higher
      • Microbiology and Anatomy and Physiology I & II with lab, completed within the last five years, with grades of C+ or higher
    • LPN Knowledge Based Assessment Exam
    • Competency Assessment in Pharmacology and Dosage Calculation
    • Two letters of recommendation from employers, academic institutions, or community organization

    Application Process

    A nursing admissions advisor will guide each applicant through the required steps:

    • Submit the Monroe College online application, including the personal statement and
      $35 application fee
    • Submit the required documents 

    Once the application and admissions documentation has been evaluated, eligible candidates are scheduled for an interview with the School of Nursing Admissions Committee. Candidates are provided timely notice of the Committee’s decision. Those who are accepted will complete the financial aid process and are subject to a background check and a physical exam.
