Alumni Basketball Game and Pep Rally – January 2008

On Thursday, January 24, Monroe College held the kickoff to its 75th Anniversary Homecoming weekend with an Alumni basketball game and pep rally on their home court at Mt. St. Michael Academy.  Along with a fabulous drum line performance by the Westchester Invaders from Yonkers, and stirring time-out shows by the Monroe Dancers and Monroe cheerleaders, the highlights of the evening were provided by the returning alumni basketball players who squared off against current staff and faculty in a fun-filled, action-packed game.  Along with Issiah Francis, who is Monroe's all-time men's leading scorer, there were five players from the legendary 1997-98 team that went 31-3 and made it to the NJCAA Division III finals:  Allen Jenkins, Edmund Dadzie, Terrel Mackey, Dave Wiggins, and Tyrone Gibson.  There were also three players from the  2002-03 team that went 31-3 and finished fifth in the national tournament:  Ryan Williams, Kevin Bell, and Jason Frazier.

The three-point shooting contest that was held before the game was won by current Lady Mustang Tiana Gilliam and the half-time slam-dunk contest featured a spectacular aerial show playoff between Ryan Williams and current Mustang Lester Hunte.  The duel was ultimately won by Hunte.

75th Anniversary
Monroe College turns 75!
It was seventy-five years ago, in January of 1933 - during the worst part of the Great Depression - that visionary people with the foresight and conviction to follow their instincts created what has become Monroe College.
