We're #1!

Both the Monroe Mustangs and Lady Mustangs basketball teams have completed their regular seasons with perfect conference records and will open the post-season as #1 seeds in the Regionals.

 

The  #12-ranked Mustangs go into the playoffs with a 28-2 record (8-0 in Region XV, Division I) and the defending national champion, #2-ranked  Lady Mustangs are 26-1 (18-0 in Region XV, Division III).

The Mustangs will tip-off their playoff run on Saturday, February 28 at 5pm in the Region semifinals against the winner of Tuesday's Westchester/Globe out-bracket game.  If they win, the finals will be the next day, Sunday, March 1 at 4pm.  Both games will be played at Sullivan CC in Loch Sheldrake, NY.

 

The Lady Mustangs will play in the Region Quarterfinals against Kingsborough on Wednesday, February 25 at 6:00pm at Mt. St. Michael Academy with their semifinal slated for Saturday, February 28 at 1pm and final on Sunday, March 1 at 12pm at Sullivan CC in Loch Sheldrake, NY.

A number of Monroe basketball players were well-represented with Region XV awards:

 

For the Mustangs, Head Coach Jeff Brustad was named Region XV, Division I Coach of the year,

Kyle Wright and Westly Perryman were first-team All-stars and Charles Funches and Michael Tuitt were second team All-stars.  Freddy Obame was recognized for sportsmanship.

 

Lady Mustangs Aminah Davis and Talaya Robinson were named to the Region's first-team and Regina Washington w as a second team All-star.  Alyscia Jordan received a sportsmanship award.
