The Monroe Lady Mustangs basketball team will attempt to defend their title as the #2 seed in this week's NJCAA, Division III National basketball tournament in Rochester, MN.  Monroe (29-1) will play in the quarter finals against UConn-Avery Point, Groton, Conn. (23-6) on Thursday beginning at 1pm (2pm, NY time).  Monroe has won two of the last three national titles and is making their sixth consecutive appearance in the tournament.

In winning the Region 15 tournament, the Lady Mustangs nabbed their 122 win against a conference opponent and their against any team in Division III, a streak that dates back to the semifinal game of the 2007 national tournament.

In the Regionals, Monroe was led by Regina Washington who won the Tournament MVP award and Talaya Robinson, who was named to the All-tournament team.

Lady Mustangs Aminah Davis and Talaya Robinson were named to the Region's first-team and Regina Washington was a second team All-star.  Alyscia Jordan received a sportsmanship award.

Also, Robinson scored her 820 point, which places her third on trhe Monroe all-tiem scoring list behind Fantasia Goodwin (1685), Angela Pace (850).
