76th Monroe Commencement

Monroe College President Stephen J. Jerome conferred degrees on more than 3,000 graduates in the college's 76th annual commencement held on Friday, June 12 in three separate ceremonies at the WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden.

In his address, President Jerome emphasized the importance of personal contact at the college and in students' futures as a formula for success.    "We have a culture of caring, and a mission of proudly offering access and opportunity to motivated students who desire to enrich their lives in a personalized and supportive environment", he said.  "Even in the technological world we live, never forget the importance of personal communication."

Keynote addresses were delivered by Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi, Monroe Board of Trustees member and former New Rochelle School superintendent Dr. James Gaddy, and WWOR news anchor, Brenda Blackmon.

Executive Vice President Marc Jerome pointed out that Monroe's diverse student body is united in their common goals and achievements.  "You represent geographic locations from around the country and around the world.  You represent different races, different religions, different colors and different beliefs", he said.  "Yet, you are united in one thing - you are going to succeed. Yes.  Whatever, life brings at you, you are going to succeed."

More than 16,000 people attended the three ceremonies.
