Generous Transfer Policy

Monroe College's generous transfer policy helps students earn a college degree even quicker. There are many ways prospective students may have earned credit. These are the following ways students can earn transfer credits.

Previous Education

Students who have previously attended an accredited college or university may transfer up to 30 credits toward an Associate degree, or up to 90 credits into the Bachelor's Degree program. If a student has already earned an Associate degree, all applicable credits may be accepted for transfer. Evaluations of transfer credits are contingent upon receipt of official transcripts from prior schools.

Police and Corrections Academy Training

Students receive full credit for all the courses taken at the Police or Corrections Academy and are eligible for up 12 credits for life experience. The College also grants credits for advance training including Homicide and Sex Crimes Schools and supervisory schools. Officers outside of New York City may also be eligible for credits based on an individual review of their portfolio.

Military Training

Monroe College honors some military transfer credits. This includes military classes, including basic training, as well as other formal training. If the soldiers or sailors MOS directly matches one of the Monroe College degrees, additional credits can be accepted and perhaps life experience credits can be granted as well. These will be reviewed on an individual basis and must receive approval from the Department Chairperson.

  • DANTES-Monroe accepts Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support test scores based on ACE (American Council on Education) recommendations.
  • ACE-Credits earned through military experience and registered through the American Council of Education will be evaulated for possible transfer credit.

CLEP

Monroe grants credit earned through college equivalency testing (CLEP). Monroe College is an official CLEP testing location and appointments can be made by calling 1-800-55-MONROE.

Work/Life Experience

For students with relevant work experience, primarily adult and returning students, Monroe College offers "Life Experience Credit" which is contingent upon administrative approval and evaluation by the appropriate major department.
